Who you'd live with
Housemates
Tenants are supported to have choice and control over who they live with. uCare iCare follows a person-centred and respectful matching process to ensure any shared living arrangement is suitable, safe, and comfortable for all tenants. Before a new housemate is introduced, we take time to understand each tenant’s preferences, routines, communication style, support needs, cultural background, personality, interests, and lifestyle. This may include their preferred level of social interaction, daily routines, noise preferences, personal boundaries, visitor preferences, and any specific needs relating to behaviour, mobility, health, or personal care. Where a potential new housemate is being considered, we consult with the existing tenants, their families, guardians, support coordinators, and other relevant members of the care team, where consent is provided. Tenants are given information about the potential housemate in a respectful and privacy-conscious way, so they can make an informed decision without breaching anyone’s confidentiality. We also encourage meet-and-greet opportunities before any final decision is made. This may include a visit to the property, an informal meeting, shared activity, or trial period depending on the needs and preferences of the tenants. During this process, we observe compatibility, communication, comfort levels, and any potential risks or concerns. The final decision is made in consultation with the tenants and their support networks, with the aim of ensuring the household remains safe, harmonious, and supportive. We do not place a person in a shared home without considering the preferences and wellbeing of the existing tenants. If a tenant raises concerns, these are listened to carefully and considered as part of the decision-making process. Our approach is to match tenants based on compatibility, safety, shared living preferences, support needs, and the overall environment of the home. This helps promote positive relationships, stability, respect, and a comfortable living arrangement for everyone in the household.
