Country lifestyle meets city convenience in this five bedroom home in Strathdale centrally located to the Regional City of Bendigo in North Central Victoria The house is approximately three kilometres east of the Bendigo city centre, with easy access to public transport with a local bus stop on the corner of Ellesmere Terrace and Beischer Street, and Bendigo train station three kilometres drive from home. Bendigo Central and Bendigo Marketplace is located five minutes from home and features all the larger chain stores such as Myer, Target, Officeworks and Big W, as well as having hairdressers, banks and various cafes to have a meal at. Various recreational pursuits are within a five minute drive of the house including Bendigo Cinemas, Bendigo Bowling Centre, Bendigo East Aquatic Centre and Lake Weeroona. Strathdale Medical Centre is a 10-minute walk from home and less than five minutes’ drive is Bendigo Health where the hospital and allied health services are located.

The house consists of five bedrooms, two fully accessible bathrooms, two separate toilets, two separate living areas and a dining area. The large residential block has an outdoor alfresco area and a garden shed. The front yard has manicured lawns and paths. All entries and doorways are flat and wheelchair accessible. The bathroom has an accessible shower. All external doors are open during the day, as this home does not currently have the restrictive practice of locked doors. Both rooms have built in wardrobes, and feature wider doorways including an external door to outside patio. There is air conditioning and heating for the comfort of residents.

Residents

There are currently three male residents in the house ranging in age between their 50's and 80's. The current residents enjoy spending time with their families, listening to music, getting about in the outdoors and engaging in sensory activities. One of the residents enjoys going out to the Pokies and having a beer with a chat. Residents use various communication styles including verbal communication, augmented communication, gestures and some signing. This home would suit an older person or resident who has no behaviours due to the vulnerability of the current residents.

Support

The SIL support team provide support seven days a week with an Inactive Night (Sleepover) overnight model of support. The SIL provider for this property is Possability. The Inactive Night support is from 10.00 pm until 7.00 am. They have experience with manual handling, medication management, positive behaviour support and dual disability.

Things the applicant needs to know

The applicant must be 18 years old or over. This is a Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) property therefore the applicant will need to have SDA funding available in their NDIS plan. The applicant will need to be able to pay rent and utilities. The applicant or their representative will need to establish a Residential Agreement. SDA COST $34,630.00 p. a.
